Do I have to reinforce my roof to support the weight of the wind turbine? That depends on the roof and the amount of snow load each year. The wind turbine only weighs approx. 250 lbs, which is spread out over about 13 square feet. This is less “load per square foot” than a person standing on the roof. Will the noise bother my neighbors? No, Mag-Wind 1100 is almost totally silent. The only noise could come from higher winds. However the wind turbine will not make any more noise than the rest of the house is making in the same wind. What about visual impact? It looks like a fine piece of Wind Art. It can also be painted in different colors to match your house. Do wind turbines kill birds? This turbine should not kill any birds. When the Mag-Wind wind turbine is rotating, it looks like a solid object. The birds can easily see it and avoid it. Will it interfere with TV/radio reception? No. The only problem could be if the turbine were positioned so that it might interfere with direct line-of-sight reception of a neighbor's satellite dish. Can wind supply power during an outage? Yes, as long as you purchase the additional equipment that is available to store wind power as electricity in charged batteries. If you wish to find out about this option, please contact us. Will the unit freeze up? The Mag-wind 1100 should not have a problem with temperatures above -30 ? Centigrade or warmer. The wind turbine will not freeze no matter how cold it gets. Below that temperature we have the option to install magnetic bearings in the shaft, which is the only area that could freeze. This is because there are no moving parts that are in contact with anything. It is, however more expensive to put in the magnetic bearings in the shaft. Will heat affect the wind turbine? The MW 1100 should not have any problem operating in hot sunshine or heat waves. There are no moving parts to overheat. How could something so small produce so much electricity? We use roof effect to increase our effective swept area, which increases the volume of air traveling past the vanes of the wind turbine. This maximizes the generation of electricity.
